Michel Cluizel is a family owned business started by the current owners papa in 1948, they produce premium chocolate bars in their state of the art factory in Normandy.
Michel Cluizel is best known here in the UK for an unrivalled collection of grand crus chocolate bars which they started producing in 1997. This collection has grown and they offer six Crus Plantation bars from, Santo Domingo, the Isle of Soa Tome, Venezuela, Papua New Guinea and two from Madagascar.
Cocoa beans are collected from exceptional plantations where the Cluizel family have developed sustainable relationships with the plantation owners all of whom are experienced growers.
These cocoa beans remain unblended and are then roasted to the Cluizel’s own very secret recipe. The resulting bars range from a 50% cocoa solid ‘Maralumi’ milk bar to the fragrant ‘Tamarina’ at 70% cocoa solids – this bar has recently been re-named ‘Vila Gracinda’. These exceptional chocolate bars should be enjoyed and compared with one another just as you would with fine wines.
Michel Cluizel also make a excellent selection of blended bean chocolate bars which include a bar of 85% dark chocolate which is certainly not for the faint hearted and an even stronger tiny 50gram fiercely bitter bar of 99% chocolate.
